Vascoites demand strict action against trucks transporting bauxite ore

Threaten to hit the streets if dust pollution continues

VASCO:  Demanding strict action against the trucks transporting bauxite ore for creating dust pollution in the town, Vasco locals have threatened to hit the streets if the prevailing situation continues.
The locals claim that the bauxite ore transportation by MPT has not benefited the locals but in fact has created nuisance.
They demanded that action be taken against the transportation of bauxite ore in the town as it resulted in dust pollution and traffic chaos.
A local said the bauxite ore is transported through the MPT to Karnataka and this is causing nuisance in the port town.
Councillor Krishna Daji Salkar said he has requested the Chief Officer to take action against the transportation of bauxite ore.
“If they do not pay heed to warnings then we will be forced to serve notices. There is ore spillage on the road on account of the bauxite transportation which has caused severe pollution in the town,” Salkar said.
“I have written to the MPT chairman, District Magistrate and all concerned authorities regarding the problem, warning that Vascoites will be forced to take steps if the authorities fail in this regard,” warned Daji Salkar.
Salkar informed that the sweeper who cleaning the ore spilled on the road has not been seen for quite some time.
