MARGAO: City-based women’s rights organisation Bailancho Ekvott has demanded a thorough probe into the Vedashri suicide case, even as the NGO questioned the delay in the arrest of the accused persons.
While demanding to know whether the police have found the suicide note, Auda Viegas said those who abetted Vedashri’s death – her husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law – are yet to be arrested for creating an environment that has led to a young, educated, working women to end her and her daughter’s life.
“An urgent investigation needs to be conducted to unravel the reasons for this drastic step by a woman at such an early age. Why had the child to die?” she asked.
In a letter to the Margao PI, Auda has demanded justice for the victim.
She said this wasn’t the first incident in which a mother has been forced to commit suicide along with her child and children. “Those who abet suicide and do not raise their voice against violation of human rights of their children should be tried and dealt with very stringently,” Auda said.
She advised women to seek help when problems arise by approaching counsellors.
