Rane was responding to a group of residents from Massordem-Sattari, the native place of Vedashri, who had sought his intervention to arrest the in-laws accused of harassing and abetting the suicide of Vedashri.
About 45 villagers of Massodem representing the ‘Jagruk Mahila Massorde’ met Valpoi MLA Vishwajeet Rane at Panjim on Saturday evening and demanded action against Vedashri’s in-laws.
The delegation, which included Vedashri’s parents and VMC councillor Prakash Gawas, complained to Rane that the police had failed to arrest the in-laws, who have been named in the police complaint, since the incident took place over 11 days ago.
Assuring to raise the issue in assembly on Monday, Rane also assured that he would continue to support Vedashri’s family at Massordem till they get justice.
A few days ago, a group of women from Massordem-Valpoi had marched to Valpoi Police Station and demanded justice in the suicide of Vedashri.
edashri’s maternal family had filed a police complaint with the Margao Police, accusing her in-laws of harassing and abetting in the suicide of Vedashri.
