PANJIM: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has claimed that its Veej Andolan has proven to be very successful as the Delhi model of electricity has been popularised in every nook and corner of Goa.
AAP organised 272 Veej Andolan corner meetings in different parts of the State as its members visited nearly three lakh households as a part of the campaign. The andolan was launched in response to Power Minister Nilesh Cabral’s challenge to AAP Delhi to come and discuss with him the power policy of Delhi and Goa claiming that Goa had the best policy. However, when AAP MLA Raghav Chadha arrived to discuss the matter Cabral stated he did not wish to discuss with an MLA.
“Following this turn out, AAP launched the Veez Andolan in December 2020 but had to suspend it for some time and revived it in January to finally end in February during which they contacted various people and explained how power supply is different in Delhi,” reads a press statement issued by AAP.
AAP said there are no power interruptions in Delhi and in case of any interruptions that are not attended to within a specific time people are compensated for losses caused due to power failure.
“Goans at various places kept asking why the same system cannot be replicated in Goa and why Goans have to pay huge bills even when they do not receive uninterrupted power supply especially as AAP pointed out that nearly 90 per cent of Delhi population saves a lot on their power bills,” the release stated as it mentioned comments from the people they visited during the meetings.
“People from different sections of societies in different places confessed their hardships and how difficult they find it to pay their power bills and how they restrain from using electricity to reduce the bills and kept accusing Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and Power Minister Nilesh Cabral of looting the people,” AAP added.
