PANJIM: Akhil Gomantak Shetkari Mahasangh on Monday submitted a memorandum to Horticulture Corporation on the rates prefixed by the corporation for vegetables procured.
“The rates prefixed by the corporation with regard to the vegetables procured by them from the Goan farmers are much lower than what is sufficient to make profit and the assurance for increasing these rates have been intimated to us multiple times,” mahasangh president Uday Prabhu Desai said.
He added, “Since the prices are fixed on the basis of the prices of the vegetables procured from Belgavi are very low as compared to the respective cost of production many farmers have left growing vegetables in Goa which has led to rise in unemployment.”
