Vehicle involved in hit-and-run case at Old Goa intercepted

PANJIM: The Old Goa police on Monday intercepted a Karnataka registered vehicle, which was involved in a hit-and-run case at the Kadamba Plateau on Sunday night.

The victim Harlaal Murmu 29, hailing from West Bengal, was killed when a speeding four-wheeler knocked him and ran him over while he was trying to cross the road.

Police said the vehicle was intercepted at Mollem and has been seized as further investigation is underway. This was the second incident of hit-and-run case reported in the jurisdiction of the Old Goa police within a week.

On October 2, a 48-year-old man from Divar Island was hit by an unidentified vehicle at Carambolim, near Old Goa. The vehicle fled from the spot after the accident. The victim was immediately rushed to the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Bambolim for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries after battling for life for five days.

The police launched an investigation to trace the accused person with the assistance of technical and local intelligence.

In July this year, Nikhil Shaju 23, a native of Kerala and attached to the Dabolim international airport  died after he was hit by a speeding vehicle.

According to police, the victim Nikhil Shaju,23 was a resident of Dabolim and native of Kerala. A Baina resident was arrested by Vasco Police in connection with the case.

Police had succeeded in identifying the vehicle involved in the accident. The accused was booked under provisions of the IPC and Motor Vehicle Act.
