Vehicle loaded with LPG cylinders veers off road in Camurlim, two hurt

MARGAO: In yet another accident in Camurlim, a jeep carrying LPG cylinders veered off the road, resulting in serious injuries to the driver and loader.

Both the driver and the loader were swiftly transported to the South Goa District Hospital following the accident. However, the driver has now been transferred to the Goa Medical College (GMC) Bambolim for further treatment.

According to head constable Prassana Prabhugaonker of the Maina-Curtorim Police Station, the accident took place at Ambora, Carmorlim, on the main road leading from Raia to Loutolim. The driver, Jayprakash Khichade, 25, hailing from Verna, and the loader, Ram Pratab Maanju, 27, also from Verna, sustained injuries in the accident. The driver was en route to supply the cylinders and was attempting to overtake another vehicle when he lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and into the adjoining shrubbery.

Anthony Fernandes, a member of the village panchayat of Camurlim, expressed concern over such accidents, highlighting that the issue has been brought to the attention of the Sarpanch. The panchayat has already proposed necessary actions to the  authorities to improve the condition of the road. Fernandes emphasized that this is the second accident within a 15-day period, at the same spot. “It is high time for the authorities to take serious note of these accidents. The road is extremely narrow at the turn, making it impossible for two vehicles to pass at the same time,” he said.
