PONDA: Veling-Priol villagers have claimed that the migrants living in rented premises in the village have become threat to their women, as “they are often involved in eve teasing.”
“There is no proper verification, address of the labourers,” they said.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, the villagers said that on Wednesday, a tenth standard girl was stalked by a migrant labourer, when she was returning from tuition after sunset.
“Following this, we are holding this press conference to brief the media about the dangers posed by the migrants. Meanwhile, the father of the girl has filed a police complaint against the migrants living in our area that they be evicted from their rented premises,” a local Naresh Gaude said, adding that a similar complaint was filed against a labourer last year.
Gaude said that most of the migrants do not have their families residing with them; and most of them are residing in groups in common rooms.
The locals claimed that a local has illegally constructed rooms and rented them out to migrant labourers.
Sarpanch Laxmikant Khedekar and Panch Sanjana Gaude, who were at the press conference, said that they have received complaint against the said illegal rooms and that they would take action against the owner, after verifying the facts.
The locals said that they would raise the issue at the gram sabha scheduled on October 28.
