PONDA: Several houses at Velop Wada in Kavlem were flooded as the water from a nullah started to overflow due to the garbage accumulated in a bandhara.
It may be recalled that a couple of years ago the bandhara was constructed at Velop nullah to provide water for cultivating paddy during summer. However, the bandhara now has become the cause of flooding in nearby houses.
According to locals, the Ponda main nullah passes through Velop. During monsoon, garbage, logs and coconuts including the town garbage get accumulated in the bandhara at Velop, due to which the water overflows and floods the nearby houses.
The farmers have demanded that at least one of the concrete blocks of bandhara be removed. There are at least four concrete blocks where garbage gets accumulated, which stops the flow of flood water resulting in flooding of the nearby houses.
