MARGAO: The Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) of the Velsao-Pale-Issorcim village panchayat was constituted by the villagers at the extraordinary gram sabha meeting held on Monday. The BMC will be led by Sarpanch Maria Diana Gouveia. The Chairperson in her brief acceptance speech stated that she will request for training of the committee members by the BDO so that every member knows about their functions and responsibilities for the five-year term. She also sought the cooperation of all the villagers to safeguard and document the endemic flora and fauna of the villages in the panchayat’s jurisdiction.
The other BMC members are Orville Dourado Rodrigues, Andrea D’Souza, Anant Narayan, Ralima Serrao, Rupali N Naik and the panchayat secretary Supresh Mayekar.
Deputy Sarpanch Kishan Sankolkar, Panchas Rudika Ashlina Antao, Francis Braganza, Jim D’Souza and Tecla were present along with other locals for the gram sabha meeting.
