VASCO: Velsao Pale villagers on Monday confronted panchayat secretary and asked him to stop the survey for the doubling of railway track project.
They were upset when they learnt that the secretary had gone to undertake survey at the railway track.
The locals also met the sarpanch and members and questioned as to why the secretary is instructed to conduct a survey of the area near the railway track. A local mentioned that as per the information, the secretary has received a WhatsApp message from Block Development Officer for inspecting the existing railway track with regards to the doubling of railway track project and to check if there are any houses within 15 metres of the track.
The locals questioned that the land measurement etc, should have been done by the Land and Revenue department as it comes under Land Acquisition Act and it’s not in BDO’s ambit.
Sarpanch Sylvia D’Souza said she was surprised and added that when she crosschecked she learnt that the BDO had marked memorandum to the secretary.
Panchayat secretary Vidur Fadte said as per the memorandum he received from his higher-up, he went to survey the site and later he was questioned by the locals along with the Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha.
He said he returned and conveyed the incident to the BDO.
