VALPOI: The long pending demand of Velus villagers to have a shade for Ganesh idol immersion in village was fulfilled after three decades. On the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, the Gaonkars from Velus inaugurated the ‘Ganpati Visarjan’ shade in the presence of ward councillor Ramdas Shirodkar.
The shade has been constructed by Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) through the development fund. Since the past 30 years, Velus villagers were demanding that the civic body construct a shade in the village for the Ganesh idol immersion as villagers were facing several problems. Finally, the VMC has constructed the shade for Ganesh idol immersion in Velus, the locals said.
“We are very happy as today on Ganesh Chaturthi our village ‘Ganpati Visarjan’ shade construction work has been completed. All villagers have been demanding this shade with the Valpoi Municipality for the past several years. At last we have got the beautiful shade for the Ganesh idol immersion,” said Amresh Gaonkar, a local.
Another villager Kashinath Surya Gaonkar said, “I thank Dulo Gaonkar for providing his land for the construction of the shade in the village. The Gaonkars always donate their land for the development of village. So we have felicitated Dulo Gaonkar for donating the land.”
“It was a long pending demand of Velus villagers to have the Ganesh Visarjan Shade in the village. I have fulfilled their long pending demand. We have built this shade through the development fund and within a month we have completed the work at an estimated cost of nearly Rs six lakh,” said councillor Ramdas Shirodkar.
