SIOLIM: Fish, Vegetable, Fruit vendors at Tarir in Siolim demand market complex with proper facilities including toilet.
For last many years, the vendors have expressed that they face major inconvenience due to absence of toilet facility, especially the women vendors, who either have to go home for urination or wait till they finish their business activity for the day. Vendors said that this also lead to health issues.
Vendors said that the sulab toilet constructed in the vicinity is not operational since the area where the toilet is build was earlier being used for devotionals purpose.
The poles holding the shed of the market have rusted and can fall anytime, which is unsafe for the vendors sitting in and around the market. They claim the concerned authority should look into this and get the poles replaced else if the poles collapse during the rain then it can even cause casualty.
Vendors also said that since the market is small, there is not enough space for all the fish vendors to sit in so customers buy fish from outside, which has reduced the business of the vendors sitting in the market shed. They demanded panchayat to make it a rule for the fish vendors to do business from inside the market so that everyone gets a fair chance. They also demanded expansion of the so that all the vendors can sit inside.
