Vendors warned not to touch pathway to Ponda market

Police say market belongs to PMC and vendors should not effect any changes; entrance to the market is narrow and causes hindrance and inconvenience to visitors

PONDA: Making it clear that the Ponda municipal market is owned by the Ponda Municipal Council (PMC), the Ponda police on Thursday warned the agitating Ponda vendors not to take law in their own hands in matters pertaining to the market.
The Ponda vendors had gathered at Ponda market and had plans to clear the debris of the demolished wall to widen the narrow pathway at the entrance to the Ponda market. A police team was stationed at the market entrance, anticipating a law and order problem at the site.
Ponda Police Inspector C L Patil later told a delegation of vendors at the police station that if they had any problem regarding the market entrance, they should inform the PMC as the market is owned by the PMC. He warned the vendors not take law into their hands.
The vendors agreed to his advice and abandoned plans to clear the debris at the market entrance.
It may be recalled that the market vendors had demolished the old shed wall at the entrance to the market and the police had arrested two persons, besides seizing an earth moving machine.
The market vendors had claimed that the narrow pathway had hindered access to customers entering and exiting the market.
