PANJIM: Former Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu will be the chief guest at the ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshta Bharat’ programme to be held at the Raj Bhavan, Dona Paula at 3:30 pm onNovember 1, to commemorate the foundation day of eight States and five Union Territories (UTs). Goa Governor P S Sreedharan will preside over the function.
November 1 is the foundation day of Andhra Pradesh, Chhatisgarh, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Tamil Nadu and UTs namely Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Delhi, Lakshadweep and Pudducherry.
The main purpose of the programme is to enhance interaction and promote mutual understanding between the people of different States and UTs. Further it showcases with great fervour the rich and vibrant cultures of States and UTs so that all people from different regions can connect, interact and forge bonds of social and cultural amity. It is also an occasion to share the best practices in art, music, dance, cuisine and tourism.
The programme also aims to display the distinct traditions of each region, the unique songs and dances of the region and authentic cuisine pertaining to the region. The inaugural programme will be followed by a cultural programme and will end with savouring of delicious cuisine from different regions.
