VASCO: South Western Railway on Thursday explained about the recent postponement of the land acquisition-related hearing saying that the railways were just given verbal intimation over the postponement of the hearing.

The railways also said that similar to the public they are also dependent on the schedules fixed by the competent authority for the hearing.

In its press note, the SWR stated that the attention of the Indian Railways has been drawn by a news item “Land acquisition hearing on double tracking adjourned” which appeared on the Herald dated April 8. The news item mentioned that there were some speculations from the public that the officials of the Indian Railways did not show up at the office of the competent authority because they might have been aware of the adjournment well in advance.

In this connection, the railways would like to clarify that a verbal intimation about postponement of the hearing was conveyed on the April 6, giving reason that the competent authority had to attend an urgent meeting which could not be avoided.

It is also hereby clarified that in matters of hearing such as this, the Indian Railways do not decide any course of action, but is also dependent on the schedules fixed by the competent authority just as the public is. Therefore, there is no question of the railways staff being aware of the adjournment well in advance as some had reportedly speculated.
