Verdict another blow to Goa due to blunders of BJP: Digambar kamat

PANJIM: Opposition leader Digambar Kamat on Monday said that the statement issued by Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has made it clear that the Supreme Court has not stayed the implementation of the Mhadei Tribunal Award and in fact allowed Karnataka to carry out works as per permissions given by Central Government.

“This is another blow to Goa due to blunders of local BJP government,” Kamat said in a release.

Kamat said that anticipating something like this will happen, the opposition had raised strong objections to the permissions granted by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change to Karnataka for the Kalasa Bhandura project and had  also objected to the action of Ministry of Water Resource notifying the Mhadei Water Dispute Tribunal Award.

“Unfortunately the State Government tried to ridicule our concerns and downplayed the serious apprehensions raised by us. Today, the SC endorsed our fear of Karnataka starting the work on Mhadei diversion of water,” he said.

He said the Central Government has already granted permissions to Karnataka and it will take hardly any time for them to prepare a DPR and get it approved.

“The Goa Government needs to explain now why they did not object to notification of the Mhadei Award? The opportunity was lost on that day itself when the notification mentioned that Goa had no objection for notification of the award,” he said.

SC has refused stay: GFP chief

Goa Forward president Vijai Sardesai slammed the State government over
the Mhadei stating that the SC has turned down Goa’s appeal for a stay on works
by Karnataka.

“Actually SC has refused stay on #Mhadei! & speaking of permissions
– @moefcc min @PrakashJavdekar past flip flops shows contempt to #Goa & its
people & show whom Centre is favouring. So it’s only a matter of time till
#Mhadei is forever lost,” Sardesai said
on his twitter handle.

“This is another lie to salvage the Zilla Panchayat
Election. Government thinks that they can fool all Goans all the time,”
said Vijai.
