SAVOI-VEREM: In a renewed display of discontent, the residents of Verem-Vaghurme village panchayat voiced their grievances during the gram sabha regarding the abandoned Shitole Lake project. The primary concern raised by the locals was the contractor’s failure to restore ancient caves that were damaged during the project, leading villagers to demand the filing of an FIR against the responsible party. Additionally, they urged a survey of natural water resources in the village.
The gram sabha, held on Sunday, commenced with the felicitation of horticulturist and farmer Sanjay Patil from Shilwada, who was recently conferred the Padma Shri. Sarpanch Shobha Perni, Deputy Sarpanch Babu Gaude, Panchayat Secretary Prasad Naik, and other panch members were present during the meeting.
Recalling the vehement opposition to the Shitole Lake project at the Bhootkhambh plateau, villagers had previously resolved to cancel the project in a gram sabha three months ago. The meeting had unanimously decided that the contractor must restore ancient Pandava-era caves damaged during the project. However, the lack of action from the contractor in this regard has sparked anger among the locals, leading to calls for filing an FIR against the responsible party.
