MAPUSA: Residents of Verla Canca led by sarpanch Amita Korgaonkar marched to the PWD office at Mapusa with vessels and confronted the JE over irregular water supply.
The residents threatened to agitate if PWD fails to regularise water supply in next eight days.
Deputy sarpanch Vrushali Arlekar, panchas Digambar Kalangutkar and Vasudev (Manoj) Korgaonkar and Saterinagar Residents Colony president Bhanudas Besari were also present.
The villagers later confronted the JE and questioned him over the irregular water supply issue.
JE said that there is no water in the tank at Verla. The sarpanch threatened to agitate if the department fails to restore water within a week.
Kalangutkar claimed that parts of Verla, Naikawado, Saterinagar and Sainagar and other areas of the village are not receiving regular water for the past four years.
The residents informed that there are also a couple of wells that have run dry.
They said they are forced to hire tankers for their daily consumption.
“Since last four years, people in the village are getting tap water for only fifteen to twenty minutes and are unable to even store the required amount. There are also a couple of private wells. The owners of the wells let the people fetch water but by March April the wells run dry”, Digambar added.
