MARGAO: Verna villagers have demanded strict vigil against migrants residing in rented premises and alleged that they were creating a nuisance in the village.

A delegation of villagers led by Franky D’Mello met the Sarpanch on Monday demanding that the panchayat initiate action and keep track on the premises being rented out to migrants.

Sarpanch Nazia D’ Costa informed that they had already appealed to the people who have rented out their rooms to the migrants to register with the

panchayat but few have

responded.

D’Mello however, pointed out that the resolution in this regard had been passed in the last gram sabha meeting and a committee was formed to draw the action plan.

He informed reporters that several illegal activities and nuisance can be witnessed in the locality due to the migrants in Verna, asserting that the panchayat body needs to come out with an action plan in order to stop the nuisance at the earliest.

“We have noticed that migrants residing in the village have resulted in several illegal activities including drug consumption and robberies. People want to know what action has been taken by the panchayat body after forming the committee,” he stated.

The delegation insisted that all those migrants residing in the rented rooms get registered with the panchayat.

Stating that a resolution in this regard has already been taken D’Costa said, “We had appealed to the owners who have rented out their rooms for the migrants to provide the details to the panchayat, but we have not received much positive response.

The panchayat cannot force the owners but police should initiate action on the nuisance if created by the migrants.”
