Veteran Actress Waheeda Rehman to Receive Prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award

India’s Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting,
Anurag Thakur, revealed that the iconic Indian actress, Waheeda Rehman, will be
honored with the esteemed Dadasaheb Phalke Award this year. This award stands
as India’s highest cinematic honor, recognizing outstanding contributions to
the world of film.

At the age of 85, Waheeda Rehman remains an enduring legend
of Indian cinema, renowned for her unforgettable roles in classics like
“Guide,” “Pyaasa,” “Kaagaz Ke Phool,” “Sahib
Bibi Aur Ghulam,” “Chaudhvin Ka Chand,” and many others. Over a
career spanning six decades, she has earned numerous prestigious accolades,
including the Padma Shri and the Padma Bhushan, India’s fourth and third
highest civilian awards, respectively. Additionally, she holds a National Film
Award for Best Actress.

Taking to X Anurag Thakur stated, “I feel an immense
sense of happiness and honor in announcing that Waheeda Rehman ji is being
bestowed with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award this
year for her stellar contribution to Indian Cinema.” He praised her
unparalleled finesse in essaying various roles and recognized her dedication
and commitment to the film industry.

Furthermore, he emphasized that this recognition is
especially significant in light of the recent passage of the Nari Shakti Vandan
Adhiniyam (Women Power Tribute Act) by Parliament, underlining Waheeda Rehman’s
exceptional journey and her commitment to philanthropy and societal well-being.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award, named after the father of Indian
cinema, will be presented to Waheeda Rehman in an upcoming ceremony, following
the footsteps of the previous recipient, Asha Parekh, with whom she shares a
close friendship.
