MARGAO: Noted freedom fighter and veteran Congress leader Sam Paulo Cruzino Da Costa popularly known as C P Da Costa passed away at his residence here on Thursday.
He was 87 and is survived by sons Jonny and Bertrand and daughters Vijaya and Alena and grandchildren. The funeral will take place on Friday at 3.30 pm.
C P Da Costa was the district Congress president and also held positions in the party.
GPCC President Luizinho Faleiro has deeply mourned the sad demise of C P Da Costa and offered condolences to the bereaved family. “The Congress party has lost a great and disciplined leader who always worked to build the party at the grassroots level. C P Da Costa was a freedom fighter and had a great share in the freedom struggle of Goa”, Faleiro said in a statement issued by Congress general secretary Altinho Gomes.
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik too condoled the said demise of the veteran freedom fighter and former district party president.
In a statement issued from Kochi, Naik said that Costa was a hardcore Congressman who never lagged behind in rendering his service to the party during elections or otherwise. “He was a man of discipline and disliked those who revolted against the party on one pretext or the other. He always held the view that party
members should express their views within the four corners of the wall.”
