VIA wants business to continue

PANJIM: President of the Verna Industries Association (VIA), Pradip Da Costa in a press statement mentioned that we do understand and accept the concern that everyone has, given the fear factor and with the alarming rise in Covid-19 cases in India in general and Goa in particular.

As the old proverb goes, “In One swallow does not a summer make”. One will come across many a negative report about Verna Industrial Estate, like the one recently published in some section of media. Agreed that a particular company was a bit negligent or irresponsible and reckless as one may perceive their actions to be, but one cannot paint the whole industry with the same brush. This will cause unnecessary and undue panic, the statement warned.

“Declaring containment zone is not the solution at all. This will bring all economic activity to a grinding halt, at a time when the country is stuttering to come to terms. People will start losing their jobs. Worse sufferers will be the daily wage earners who are already in the pits. Even the government will not be able pay salaries to their employees as a result of revenue loss, given that tourism etc are all down, and with Verna being the biggest revenue and employment hub in Goa at the moment,” said the President of VIA.

“Goa State Industries Association (GSIA) and VIA have taken utmost pains in recent times in alleviating the woes of migrant labour during the lockdown, and subsequently in partnering the government to kick-start the economy again in a controlled manner. All that will come to a nought. What is the need of the hou, is a proper SOP which then needs to be diligently followed by all the stakeholders. Rather than being panic stricken and overawed by the situation we need to take it by the horns and work out an effective solution collectively,” said the statement released by the VIA President Pradip Da
