Victims’ antecedents a mystery

PANJIM: North Goa police are probing the antecedents of the two girls, who were gang-raped by five men at a Calangute flat on Tuesday. The girls, one hailing from Delhi the other from the outskirts, had arrived Goa two days before the attack.

Their antecedents remain a secret as they haven’t given details about themselves in their initial statement to Anjuna police. “We have requested the NGO for assistance. Their statement before a local magistrate under Section 164 CrPC is yet to be recorded,” an officer said. The girls, who had come to Goa on June 1, were staying at a rented house in Siolim.
Their brief deposition to the police does not give clarity about their purpose in visiting Goa, places they toured and people they have interacted with.
