MARGAO: The South Goa district administration has processed a total of 530 ex-gratia relief claims for victims impacted by natural calamity during the monsoon.

Of these, compensation totalling Rs 2.52 crore has already been disbursed to 480 property owners whose houses and properties suffered damage during the disaster.
Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira confirmed that the remaining 50 applications are likely to be cleared soon and the compensation amount would be sanctioned by December 31. The claims are geographically distributed, with Salcete taluka accounting for the maximum number of applications at 175, followed by Ponda taluka with 117 claims.
He was speaking to media persons at the South Goa District Collectorate after completing his weekly review meeting.
Highlighting the government’s responsiveness, the Minister noted that the sanction of these natural calamity cases fulfils the commitment made by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant during the recently concluded session of the Goa Legislative Assembly.
“I am sure the substantial amount sanctioned by the administration will help the victims to tide over the situation,” the Minister said. He further emphasized that the government remains dedicated to extending support to the people and resolving their issues.
