MARGAO: A video of Congress MLA Pandurang Madkaikar criticizing his party for not projecting new faces at the Lohia Maidan meeting is being circulated on Whatsapp and social media. The video, which shows Madkaikar talking to other Congressmen after the meeting, appears to have been recorded on a mobile phone without the legislator’s knowledge. Former Calangute MLA Agnelo Fernandes can also be seen.
In the video, Madkaikar criticised the party for letting only senior leaders sit in the front row, when the public wanted to see new faces. He pointed out that it was just the old faces even for the photo-shoot and claimed that the party had missed out on an opportunity to showcase younger faces.
He further said in the video that everyone was interested in knowing which local leaders were present and what was the party’s future in terms of who was in the fray for an election ticket. He reiterated that the party had lost out on an opportunity and that it was damaging.
While GPCC president Luizinho Faleiro spoke about the party bringing in more new faces than old, Pandurang’s comment exposed what many of the party workers were feeling at the meeting, where none of the local leaders and ticket aspirants were invited onstage and only the old faces were present on the dais.
