Videos of undertrials on a stroll, threatening a Nigerian inside Colvale jail go viral

Two videos show a history sheeter leading a group of inmates

PANJIM: Colvale Central Jail is back in the news and yet again for all the wrong reasons. Videos of some undertrials taking a stroll in the building in a rather filmy style and threatening a Nigerian accused, indicates the use of mobile phones inside the jail – which otherwise is banned under the law.

Two videos of 30 seconds and 20 seconds show a history sheeter leading a group of inmates. The history sheeter was arrested in the fag-end of last year from Karnataka and has a series of cases of extortion, kidnapping and rape against him.

In the videos with Marathi music in the background, he along with others walks in the building as other inmates are also outside their respective cells. Sources said one of his close associates, also a prison inmate, shot the video on his mobile phone about a week before the history sheeter got bail.

In one video, two other undertrials gesture at the man’s “grand entry” as they all walk up the staircase. The three are then joined by more inmates, who until the mobile camera points at them, are seen sitting on the fence. All are dressed in their best attire.

Another video, which is the continuation of the first one, shows some of them threatening a Nigerian and the history sheeter blocking them, which appears to be in a playful manner. Sources said the entire act was planned for recording purpose. The video that has gone viral raises serious questions on the illegal use of mobile phones inside the jail. The jail officials were unavailable for comment.
