VALPOI: Vidhya Vinod Sawant won the Morlem Panchayat ward 3 by-election on Monday by five votes, where four candidates contested.
Vidhya polled 171 votes, followed by Mohini Gaonkar (166), Kalpana Gaonkar (33) and Rukmini Gaonkar (6) in Morlem panchayat, which has seven wards, falls in Poriem constituency.
At present there is a tie between the BJP and Congress panels in the panchayat, as both Congress and BJP panels have three panchas each.
However, with Vidhya’s win, the BJP panel has four panchas.
“We will convene a meeting in our village which will decided as to who will be Sarpanch and Deputy Sarpanch, said Sushant Paste, panch member from BJP panel.
