MARGAO: After the BJP, now, the former Sarpanch of Carmona panchayat Allwyn Jorge has condemned the language used by Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas against PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral, when the two got into a heated argument during the inspection of the dysfunctional Sewage Treatment Plant at Navelim.
Jorge told Herald that the abusive language used by the Benaulim MLA in front of the media, which caused the videos of the spat to go viral on social media is highly deplorable and called it a ‘new low in Benaulim constituency politics’. “There are procedures to file formal complaints and elected representatives have to show restraint and discipline and set an example to society while in the public domain. The timing of the inspection of the STP in the absence of the Navelim MLA raises eyebrows and the abusive language used by Viegas against Cabral shows his frustration in being unable to undertake any developmental works in the Benaulim constituency,” said Jorge.
“I had to approach the High Court for justice as our MLA refused to convince the Chinchinim Medical Officer to comply with the directions of the Chief Minister to open the gate of the Carmona Recreational Centre. Our issues concerning Carmona Beach, development of the Football Ground and Carmona Sports Upgradation Project have not been addressed, either,” he complained.
