VASCO: A vigilant parent and an alert public foiled an attempt to kidnap a girl child in Vasco, on Saturday. The accused was caught and thrashed by the locals for having attempted the crime in broad daylight.
The locals caught hold of the Uttar Pradesh native Uttam Kumar Bind who tried to kidnap a minor girl from her parents’ custody.
The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon while the parent of the child was standing in front of the Bank of India ATM in Vasco to withdraw money. While the parent was in the queue the accused person tried to kidnap the minor girl.
The parent immediately noticed this and stopped the man from kidnapping and called for help from around. When the people got affirmative signs of this being a kidnapping attempt, they caught hold of the accused person, thrashed him in public and handed him over to Vasco police.
The aggrieved parent of the minor child has demanded thorough inquiry of this person and also demanded a check on his contacts to find out how many other such men are operating in the town.
The Vasco police have registered an offence against the person under the relevant sections of the IPC.
The incident happening just a few days before the Vasco Saptah, where thousands of children are amongst the crowd of devotees, increases the seriousness of having tight security at the festival venues.
Vasco Police Inspector Nolasco Raposo has assured the town dwellers as well as the people coming for Saptah of having a tightest security arrangement.
“We are going to have CCTV cameras in all the sensitive areas monitoring the movement of such anti-social elements mongering in the town during the Saptah,” he said.
He said that the Vasco Police will be on their toes during the seven-day celebration.
