MARGAO: Alleging manipulation in the delimitation of Margao Municipal Council wards to favour the BJP government, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai has called for scrapping of the process.
Vijai has accused the ruling dispensation of manipulating that the process of delimitation to facilitate the re-election of the same corrupt councillors.
Vijai has also demanded the work of delimitation be handed over to the Election Commission rather than to the Directorate of Municipal Administration.
Condemning the manipulation in delimitation of wards as murder of the democratic political system of free and fair elections, Vijai alleged that, “The authors of this whole exercise are the defeated MLA’s of assembly elections.”
To authenticate his allegation, Vijai disclosed that a BJP worker, who was denied ticket for the municipal election, was the source of his information.
Vijai said a group of wannabe councillors met the chief minister on Tuesday and got the changes done to get them elected to the council.
“There is no geographical contiguity in the process and this is proven in some of the newly delimited wards in Fatorda. In some areas one housing society has been put in such a distant ward that it’s hard to believe that its rationalisation of voters,” Vijai said.
