MARGAO: Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai said the “state needs to direct immediate action to safeguard the citizens and residents of Goa” and strongly argued in favour of setting up the COVID Command Centre at a meeting convened by the district administration with MLAs today to discuss the pandemic.
Vijai said the vaccination centres need to be increased and even offered using his office Goemkar Ghor as a venue.
“Prioritising vaccination will avoid the delays which are causing higher infections and deaths,” he said adding that infections will naturally decrease if more people are vaccinated.
He stressed the need to set up a COVID Command centre through which all information regarding availability of hospital beds, oxygen supply, vaccine centers and other COVID related matter could be provided through a simple mobile application or an online dashboard.
He also suggested available government employees be used for tasks like driving ambulance or providing information over phone.
He severely criticized politicising the battle against COVID, especially by politicians who flaunt their party logo and banners during vaccination camps.
“This is a time for unity and not a party membership drive and at this moment we must be Goans first,” he said while appealing to the Deputy Collector Jyoti Kumari to ask the government to stop wasting funds on tourism advertisement and said Rs. 29 crore proposed for online marketing of Goa Tourism be utilized instead to fight Coronavirus.
