PORVORIM: Goa Forward Party (GFP) leader and Minister Vijai Sardesai on Tuesday said he disagrees with Deputy Speaker Michael Lobo’s demand for a CBI probe into the recent desecration cases claiming that the local police are competent.
The GFP leader, however, said the Goa government has done the right thing by handing over the case to the Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS).
“I do not agree with Calangute MLA Michael Lobo that the recent desecration cases need to be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The government is very serious about the issue and the local police are competent enough and just need to be pushed a little. A CBI inquiry could take the issue to a dead end,” Sardesai said.
“When you hand over such an investigation to the CBI it looks like you don’t have faith in the local police. I have full faith in the local police who have the capability to crack down and arrest the criminals for trying to create communal disharmony,” Sardesai said.
