MARGAO: Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardessai expressed confidence that he would be able to transform his constituency of Fatorda during the term of the present government and indicated that the government would last its full term.
“I am confident that Fatorda will undergo the transformation that I had promised,” he said adding that the present coalition was formed for the betterment of Goa and to help the people. He argued that they cannot abdicate that responsibility and have to continue to work for the people of Goa.
“Nobody can deny that Manohar Parrikar is the architect of modern Goa,” he said referring to the various infrastructure works he initiated in the State. “Using his position as Defence Minister he got sanctioned Rs 20,000 crore for infrastructure in Goa,” Vijai said.
When asked why Parrikar continues to remain in office despite being sick specially when he dropped two ailing ministers from the Cabinet, Vijai said, “Goans are large hearted people and they want Parrikar to remain as chief minister, because of the work that he has done.” And he pointed out that his ill-health is not his making.
He said the BJP President Amit Shah understands the political situation in Goa including the different views of the coalition partners on certain issues and pointed out that Sudin is a senior politician. However, he said, Goa would overcome of this situation and the present government would complete its full term.
Admitting that earlier works were hampered because it used to be difficult to get the NOC from comunidades, he said that issue is now solved; and he said that even when he was in the Opposition he got his works done.
“People are seeing the good work done by this government and they are happy with it,” he said pointing out that community farming has already started in Fatorda constituency and will now be taken to rest of Goa.
“Agriculture will be organized now and very soon farmers from Fatorda will be growing high yielding vegetables that will help maintain the ruro-urban identify of the constituency,” he said.
Admitting that the new bus terminal is a major challenge for him he said he will initiate the process of amalgamating the land belonging to Transport Department and Urban Development Department to construct the new bus terminal.
He commissioned the work of constructing a nallah from wholesale fish market right up to Jaldhara Society covering a length of around 160 mts and the work will include cleaning the nallah, construction of retaining wall on both sides of the nallah and covering the nallah with RCC clab at the residential and commercial areas.
Gurair Builders from Chandrawado Fatorda has bagged the contract that includes extending the existing nallah to another about 80 metres and covering around 80 meters length of the nallah with RCC slabs.
