MARGAO: Asserting that Chief Minister’s statement that PSI recruit is a suspect in the Nigerian murder case,  Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai on Wednesday demanded the scrapping of the PSI recruitment scheme and transparency in the recruitment process.
“There are other PSI recruits who have criminal backgrounds. We have been talking about criminals-politicians-drug mafia nexus, but here is a case wherein the government has made some criminals PSIs.
The Parivartan has come out with a simplified procedure by setting up a single window system, wherein criminals are being recruited as PSIs,” he said, while justifying his demand for scrapping of the recruitment process.
“This government has scrapped recruitment in the Mines and other departments under one pretext or other. Is the government shying away from taking action because the PSIs posts were auctioned to the highest bidder?” he questioned.
On the Nigerian episode, Sardesai said the statement by BJP MLA Pramod Sawant that the Nigerians were on drugs on the day of the Porvorim incident shows that drugs are freely available in the State with the government doing nothing to curb the menace.
He said the Chief Minister is facing  an acid test to prove that his government has the backbone to initiate action against the Nigerians involved in the Porvorim incident.
