MARGAO: Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai on Saturday distributed organically grown high grade paddy seeds to all the farmers of Fatorda under the banner of Fatorda Agro Works. The farmer’s organisation is planned and begun to support organic farming in Fatorda and to provide all the necessary machines and raw material and labourers to help farmers of Fatorda. Vijay has pledged that he won’t allow the district hospital to open until the farmers who lost their land for the project get jobs that they have been promised.
Vijai has appealed to all the farmers to shift to organic farming till next season to take the benefits of various schemes of the government. He has also asked all the farmers to strictly produce and sell on their own and not to sell their licences to some outsiders. “From June 14, Fatorda Agro Works will begin giving all the requisites of farming, right from seeds, manure, fertilizers, power tillers and other machinery which makes farming easier and convenient. We even have plans of locating land and area for a market for the produce of the farmers” said Vijai.
The Fatorda Agro Works initiative will benefit almost 150 to 200 farmers of Fatorda and has a target of becoming the first place in India which is a fully certified organic farming constituency.
