Vijai fears for democracy after Parrikar’s statement

MARGAO: Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai said that democracy in Goa is at crossroads with the Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar making a statement against transparency.

MARGAO: Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai said that democracy in Goa is at crossroads with the Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar making a statement against transparency.
Using the platform of the induction ceremony of the ITI, Borda at the Ravindra Bhavan on Friday, Vijai said it was indeed shocking to read the chief minister asking the participants at the ‘Make in India’ programme not to be transparent. “Transparency is the cornerstone of any democratic polity. But, now we suddenly hear the chief minister advising people not to be transparent. This is a big challenge to the citizens of Goa,” he said, while saying that democracy will indeed be in peril without transparency. 
In his address at the induction ceremony, Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado said that Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar has accorded top priority to education, while expressing confidence that the government would achieve the mission of creating 50,000 jobs in the State. “The Chief Minister will keep his promise and create the jobs in the years to come. The shortcomings in the ITIs will also be addressed,” he said.
Former chief minister, Digambar Kamat said that only education can change the future of the country.
Director of Craftsmen Training, Alexio Da Costa urged the students to aspire to become best craftsmen in their respective trade.
Velim MLA Benjamin D’Silva along with other dignitaries was also present.
