Vijai initiates heritage conservation

MARGAO: Living up to his motto of Goen, Goenkaar & Goenkarponn, Archives and Archaeology Minister Vijai Sardesai has started heritage conservation and urban regeneration of historic areas of Fatorda.

MARGAO: Living up to his motto of Goen, Goenkaar & Goenkarponn, Archives and Archaeology Minister Vijai Sardesai has started heritage conservation and urban regeneration of historic areas of Fatorda. 
The exercise started with the inspection of the Camara De Municipal in old market which is one of the heritage hot spots which will undergo renovation under this plan.
Accompanied by Executive Director of LKS India Pvt Ltd Maria Belen Mendizabal, SGPDA Chairperson Renuka DaSilva, Member Ankit Prabhudessai, Vijai visited the Camara Municipal and had a look at the structure. LKS India is the consultant company for the ambitious project.
“The Government of Goa has given the consultancy of city planning of Panjim and Mapusa to LKS India Pvt Ltd. As far Margao is concerned, the project is of urban regeneration and heritage restoration will be taken up wherein the road stretch from old market to Holy spirit church will be conserved,” Vijai informed. 
“The heritage and architecture is real Goenkaarponn,” the minister said.
“I had told the chief minister to give work of Margao to the consultant and maybe we will have to take up the work with the PDA,” the minister added. 
The minister also said that after the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday he would push for this project with the chief minister. 
The minister said that the wholesale fish market, the bus stand, the Bishop Rebello Cultural Avenue, the Tinto with a modern touch and also the stretch from the Old Market to Church is included in the project that he plans to promote. 
“I have the Archives and Archaeology Ministry now and since lot of the job is archival conservation, I will see how best the ministry helps me in the same,” Vijai said.
