MARGAO: With the sword of Damocles hanging over the residents of Talsanzor after the expiry of the 10-day deadline, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai led a delegation of the beleaguered residents to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to save the structures of Goan inhabitants from demolition.
South Goa District Collector, N D Agrawal was also present for the meeting, wherein the Chief Minister is believed to have underlined the need to protect the interests of the genuine people inhabiting the hillock for a long time.
Given the meeting the Fatorda MLA had with the Chief Minister, sources in the know said the district administration is now unlikely to go ahead with the demolition exercise and will wait for further directions from the government on the issue.
When contacted, District Collector has declined to comment on the outcome of the meeting the Chief Minister had with the Fatorda MLA, saying his office has not received any instructions from the government on the issue.
Incidentally, Agrawal said the issue of demolition of Talsanzor structures falls within the domain of the South Goa Comunidade Administration, adding that the district authorities can only provide services of the demolition squad.
“I have not received any proposal from the Comunidade Administrator for the demolition squad. The Administrator called on me today with regard to some other
 issue,” he said.
Officials said that the district administration will now wait for the government to unveil its policy on Talsanzor structures, virtually keeping the demolition exercise on hold.
