vasco: Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai descended on Mormugao to campaign for the Congress-GFP candidate Sankalp Amonkar on Tuesday. Indian Youth Congress National President Srinivas BV, IYC Goa State President Varad Mardolkar and IYC Goa State General Secretary Adv Archit Naik along with the candidate and local Congress leaders accompanied him in the constituency.
The Fatorda MLA unleashed a blistering attack on the BJP, especially for renominating Milind Naik from Mormugao even after serious allegations of sexual molestation against him which led to his resignation from the Pramod Sawant ministry.
“The Balatkari Janata Party has crossed all limits by putting up Milind Naik again as their candidate. Do they think that an alleged rapist is the best representative for the women of Mormugao?” Sardesai asked, emphasising the importance of winning the constituency for the Congress.
“Defeating Milind here is not only a prestige issue for the people but also a message from the women of the smallest constituency to the BJP leadership that atrocities against women will not be tolerated, and no one should think that they can get away with it,” he said.
Sardesai’s joint campaign with the Youth Congress leaders made him reminisce about the time when he was in the Youth Congress. “A reunion of sorts with Youth Congress that ushered me in politics and which I once headed in Goa”, he commented and added that youth leaders with political upbringing should be elected in Goa, and not tainted and perverse people.
“The people of Mormugao has made a ‘Sankalp’ to get rid of the Bhrastachari and Balatkari virus that has infected the society and I’ve no doubt that Sankalp Amonkar will be the people’s choice and surely not a sexual predator,” said Vijai, reminding BJP that Goa is not a banana republic where anything goes.
