PANJIM: Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai on Friday came down heavily on certain systems followed by the government.
Speaking at the Goa Bizfest conclave he said, “Officer from the Goa government is in charge of the corporation which is called Solid Waste Management Corporation. He should be dealing with all issues related to his department all over Goa. The process which is going on now, I believe is wrong. When you have multiple power centres, you do not have solutions. Why is Tourism Department collecting beach waste? They are supposed to promote tourism, not collect waste. In fact Sonsoddo dump polluted my vote bank and I lost a lot of votes. Waste is a very contentious issue, it may even make you lose an election,” the TCP minister said very candidly.
He stressed on the need to have people’s participation to keep the State clean. “The government needs to have a clear vision on this. Saligao waste management plant issue has confused the people because there was no proper communication. If you need to grow you have to be clean and green. I am open to making green buildings compulsory in Goa as it will lead to cleanliness and saving lot many resources and composting of waste also becomes compulsory,” Sardesai said.
