PANJIM: Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai on Tuesday said that he is deeply saddened and intensely worried to learn about the increasing deaths in Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim due to the gross mismanagement of oxygen supply in the State.
Vijai expressed his concern over the alleged “rationing” of oxygen supply at the GMC saying, “We had raised this issue publicly and demanded that Goans should have number one priority for oxygen supply, and only after their 100 per cent needs are met should the government release oxygen to other States if required.”

He urged the CM to immediately review the situation and ensure that no more Goans lives are lost.
Vijai said, “It is the Chief Minister’s duty to ensure sufficient oxygen is available for all patients, and that the government must not divert oxygen until Goans’ needs are taken care of.”
He pointed out the grim reality that Goa’s mortality count has reached its highest daily rate of 75 deaths, adding up to 1,804 deaths in total.
Vijai added that “the rising numbers do not bother Pramod Sawant rather he is busy focused on his Public Relations image.”
He mentioned that the 32,835 active cases are extremely worrying, and that the govt should ensure that Goa receives its share of vaccines at the earliest.
The GFP Chief called again for a State-wide COVID-19 task force to reach out to citizens and assist them with their needs.
He said, “This govt is directionless in its approach, and a dedicated team of experts should be immediately deployed to control the situation in the State.” Vijai highlighted that “the people of Goa are helpless, as there is no intention from the CM to listen to others on how to help Goa in these difficult times.”
He also suggested that the State declare a day of remembrance and mourning for the lives lost to COVID.
He said, “We cannot pretend everything is normal, and we have to show our respect to the 1,804 Goan lives lost.”
The GFP chief added that the party is doing all it can to help those in need — from oxygen concentrators to cylinders to medications.
Earlier, Vijai attended the meetings held to set up two COVID Care Centres.
He said that they are awaiting the district administration’s nod for the requisition of the identified premises in Margao and Fatorda.
Vijai said he remains hopeful that the permission for the centres will come through and that unnecessary and petty politics would not come into play.
“These are Goans lives we are looking out for,” he reminded.
