MARGAO: Goa Forward Party president Vijai Sardessai appealed to all people to vote for the candidates of Margao Civic Alliance so that using this as a stepping stone they can launch the Team Goa programme to keep the BJP out of Goan politics by ensuring its defeat at the 2022 elections.

Speaking to media he said his volunteers will give masks and sanitisers to the voters to keep them safe and sound to vote at the elections on April 23 and said the ruling BJP has been put on the back foot by the “blue wave” that is apparently sweeping Fatorda.

Last elections all 11 candidates fielded by Sardesai in Fatorda assembly segment were elected. In ward 23 they have fielded Nimesia Faleiro wheres as in ward 25 they has fielded Ashma Bi who is a lawyer by profession and is an educated Muslim and also the president of Goa Forward Party’s women wing.

He said most of the candidates fielded by Fatorda Forward are young and dynamic and said the youngest is 26-year-old Pooja Naik who was the chairperson of the dissolved council while the senior most candidate is 62-year-old Raju Naik.

He cautioned voters against people who are in the fray to split the votes and allow the BJP to engineer a victory. “To form a council one needs 13 councillors and these people have not even fielded that many candidates and are talking about forming council,” he said wondering how it was possible.

He alleged that the candidates fielded by Fatorda Congress Block or the citizen’s choice panel are nothing but proxy candidates for the BJP.

He lamented that the BJP was now seeking votes in the name of late Manohar Parrikar when earlier it had objected to naming a road in Fatorda after Manohar Parrikar and said he would now name that road as “Forward Avenue” as he wants to forget the past and move forward.
