PANJIM: The family of Vikat Bhagat has demanded a thorough probe through a separate agency like Crime Branch in the murder of Irish national Danielle McLaughli. Vikat is the accused and has been arrested in the case.
Bhagat’s family has received a letter from Vikat, handwritten by him from the judicial lockup at Colvale jail, stating that he did not kill McLaughlin but three other persons did.
“We demand that Goa Police transfer the investigation from the local police to either Crime Branch or any other agency for free and fair probe,” his sister, Geeta Bhagat, said.
She mentioned that what her brother has written corroborates with the circumstances. “I have written to the Director General of Goa of Police demanding that the probe be handed over to some other agency. I have also enclosed a copy of the letter so that Police look into the facts mentioned,” she said. She stated that Vikat’s medical reports have been enclosed with the letter.
McLaughlin was raped and murdered at Canacona on March 13, 2017. Police have booked Bhagat in the case. However, Vikat in the letter, a copy of which is now in possession of Herald, claims he is innocent. He has written all what transpired that night alleging that she was killed by three others. He also said that he has revealed this to Canacona Police but it was not taken on record.
