Villagers demand exclusion of Candolim from PDA

Submit memorandum to panchayat demanding de-notification of village from PDA

MAPUSA: Delegation of Candolim villagers headed by social activist Roshan Mathias on Friday submitted a memorandum to the local panchayat, demanding de-notification of their village from Planning and Development Authority.
When the delegation reached the panchayat office, neither Sarpanch Salvador Blaise Fernandes nor other panchas were present. Angry at their absence, the delegation claimed that the sarpanch deliberately remained absent at his office. Later, the memorandum was in-warded in the office.
The memorandum was signed by 35 Candolim villagers. According to the delegation, a copy of the memorandum would be forwarded to TCP Minister Vijai Sardessai and NGPDA Chairman.
In their memorandum, the villagers have stated that that they are unhappy with the inclusion of Candolim in PDA and drafting of ODP for the village; that the sarpanch and panchas are on record that PDA would not benefit locals in any way.
The villagers threatened to come on streets if Candolim is not de-notified from PDA.
The memorandum also demanded the Candolim panchas to resign immediately from any committee of the NGPDA or TCP board.
