Villagers demand proper demarcation of crematorium land at Curti-Khandepar

PONDA:  The Curti Khandepar Gramsabha, chaired by newly elected Sarpanch Harish Naik recently, addressed various pressing issues, with the demarcation of crematorium land for Hindus, Muslims, and Catholics taking centre stage.

Villagers expressed concerns about the potential for tension among communities due to the lack of proper demarcation. Despite government acquisition of approximately 17,000 square metres of land for the crematorium 15 years ago, no official demarcation or allotment has been carried out.

The Sarpanch acknowledged previous demarcation attempts by private surveyors but deemed them invalid.

In response, locals urged for government surveyors to conduct the demarcation officially to prevent future disputes.

Additionally, villagers questioned the expenditure on garbage management over the past five and ten years, seeking clarification from the Panchayat. Anganwadi workers highlighted their difficulty in paying monthly rent and requested support from the panchayat, which pledged assistance upon receiving information about the landlords.

CCTV installation also sparked discussion, with the Sarpanch promising action. Residents objected to the cramped quarters of the gramsabha venue and advocated for larger halls.

They also emphasised the need for proper facilities and legal procedures before granting NOCs and approvals to builders by the Panchayat and TCPs.

Residents welcomed proposals to renovate the water tank near MIBK school, conduct hot mix carpeting for internal roads, and replace old pipelines. Concerns about road conditions leading to injuries were also raised.
