PERNEM: On Monday a group of people including villagers, farmers, social activists and environmentalists gathered outside the office of Pernem police demanding police to stop the work of the pump house. They submitted a copy of the memorandum along with copy of stop work order issued by the Casarwane panchayat. However, IPS official Swati Singh, who has temporarily taken charge of the office, said that action in this regards will be initiated only after consulting the higher officials.

Villagers said that if the concerned department fails to act then they will approach the court.

Farmers, villagers and likeminded people said that if this project completes then it will badly affect the water supply issue of whole of Pernem taluka. “A 15 MLD plant is there. Also work of another 15 MLD plant is ongoing. Both this plants will pump water of Bailpar River then what is the need of this third pump house?  If three plants continue to pump water of the river, then the river will dry,” said farmers.

“Nor the villagers or the panchayat was taken into confidence before taking up the project work. Just because it is a Government project, people are not going to accept it,” said people.
