BICHOLIM: Alert villagers from Velguem Bicholim foiled attempt by two thieves to steal spare parts from a garage on Monday midnight. One of the thieves managed to flee from the site while the other was handed over to the police.
According to a local, two unknown culprits affected entry into a garage which remains closed since last many months, and started stealing the items from the garage. They also hijacked a parked rickshaw to transport the stolen material from the garage.
However, a neighbor heard some sound thus prompting him to come out of the house. On finding that there is some suspicious thing going on at a nearby garage, he rushed to the spot and was shocked to see the two unknown attempting to steal materials from garage. He later alerted locals through his cell phone. On getting intimated locals rushed to spot. However, one of the thieves managed to flee. Other thief was later handed over to Bicholim police.
Earlier, there were several incidents of thefts in Velguem area. Villagers have therefore demanded with the police to intensify night patrolling in the area to prevent such crimes.
