PANJIM: Villagers from troubled Tiracol expressed fear as they complained of hearing sounds of machines early Saturday morning with the area surrounded by over 50 bouncers guarded by cameras.
“Last night at around 2 am we saw 60 to 70 bouncers outside the marked area with cameras to see who was coming. We also noticed that the machine that was used to cut down trees last week and that were included in the panchanama were removed and another vehicle was brought in,” said Anthony Mendes, member of the St. Anthony’s Mundkar Association.
He said that from the sounds of the vehicle, they were in the process of cutting more trees but couldn’t be sure as he wasn’t allowed entry into the area.
Leading Hotels who claim to be owners of the property began work on their golf course cum resort that will cover over 9 lakh square metres of village land last week after 50 bouncers were made to guard the entrance to the area.
Gerson Rebello, head of corporate communications at Leading Hotels, however, said they had all the permissions that were required adding that they were merely creating an access pathway to the actual area where the resort is to be built.
