Villagers object setting up Covid Care Centre in school at Sanguem

SANGUEM: The villagers of Valkini in Bhati village of Sanguem taluka have condemned the governments move to notify Government High School at Valkini as Covid Care Centre despite being better place to house Covid Care at Sanguem.

Sarpanch of Bhati Village Panchayat Uday Naik recommended that the Government building at Pajimol Sanguem which houses the lone Water Resources Department office would be an ideal place to convert into Covid Care Centre.

Villagers fear that the virus could affect their children who send their children to school. They also said that if the government plans for reopening of the schools soon and simultaneously running the school as Covid care centre in the vicinity

Naik raised several problems at Valkini  if the centre for covid care is made like no parking area, lack open space and moreover there is a single toilet for use and that too located in residential area.

He said that the government building at Pajimol has toilets on each floor and has ample of open space surrounding the building. Besides, there is also a government rest house few meters away from the government building which could be well used by the doctors and other staff members for recreation.

A representation objecting declaration of the school as Covid Care Centre has been submitted by the PTA to the Collector and the Deputy Collector. Meantime, Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar has also contacted Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and briefed him over the issue while simultaneously suggesting the shifting of the Covid Care Centre at Pajimol in Sanguem itself.
